Target Drive is Not Showing Up
If you have plugged in your target drive and it is not appearing in your computer here are some things to try.
Mac and Windows use different file systems. The Windows file system can be read on a Mac, but you can not write to a Windows drive from a Mac. Using a Windows Formatted Drive on Mac The Mac file system will not work at all on a Windows system without some third party software. Using a Mac Formatted Drive on Windows Your Target drive has been returned to you in the same format that the recovery was for, so if this was a Mac recovery then your drive was formatted for Mac unless you specifically requested it be a different format. If you received a Mac formatted drive and you are trying to read the contents on a Windows computer it will not work. Please find a Mac computer to look at your data with.
If your target drive was an internal drive and you are trying to connect the drive using a USB adapter cable, we have found these devices to be unreliable. Even if the adapter works fine with other drives they are not 100% reliable on all drives. If possible put the drive directly into a desktop computer as a secondary drive. If that is not possible try putting the drive into an external enclosure. If none of that works then please call DriveSavers at 800-609-2301 to see about getting your data put onto an external target drive.
If your target drive is a WD Encrypted drive purchased from DriveSavers refer to one of these pages. WD Encrypted on Windows or WD Encrypted on Mac.
